My Christmas

Hey! Check out these new digs. I think I could like this. There's room for me, my stuff, and more of my stuff. Now if someone would just turn out the light, I could take a nap and make this a really nice Christmas.

Darwin's Christmas

I got this nice new sleeping pad for Christmas. Here's a picture of Darwin using it (he thinks it's his...ha!). I'm so nice. Posted by Picasa

Santa knows who's been naughty

Hmmm, I wonder how those teeth marks got on Mom's present from Dad? For that matter, how did this get unwrapped before being chomped on?

How did this present to Dad get unwrapped and chewed? I wouldn't know that the box was leather and the item inside was also a nice, beautiful, leather. I wonder how that happened? Hmmmm?

What do all these presents have in common?????

Some secret Santa's helper unwrapped them and chewed on each of them. I wonder who would do such a dastardly deed?

Why are all these shreds of wrapping paper in my bed? Is someone trying to frame me?

I didn't do it! Honest! I'm innocent! Someone's trying to frame me! I take the 5th ammendment! I want to talk to my lawyer!

Must resist temptation. Don't give in to primal urges. . . .

Bwah-hahahahaha. . . . It's mine all mine all mine. Rip, shred, tear, chomp!!!!!

Aaaahhhhhh. . . . that was great! I'm totally exhausted!

Maybe if I lie down and stay really still, they won't make the connection. I really need a nap right now.

Night night. Must snooze now. I'll just lay on the evidence and they won't see the mess I made. I sure do love this time of year!

On Patrol

Here I am during one of my routine patrols of the backyard. I had just chased off some rogue squirrels. Once again the backyard is safe for all to enjoy.

A typical Emma day

Where's that squirrel? I just missed it.

Oh, is it time for another close-up? Let me see that lens - it needs to be cleaned.

I need to have a nice ear-do for my portrait.

Thanks for bringing my bed up from the laundry room. The clothes are still nice and warm.

Perfect!

A walk in the park after dark

Mom and I have been going for walks at the Park of Roses with our friends Esprit and Scout (Esprit's nice dog). This time of year it gets dark very early so our walk ends after sunset.

I don't mind too much, though, because it's easier to sneak a kiss in after dark.

An Interesting Hole

This smells like a very interesting hole...very interesting indeed. Now if I could only disconnect this leash, I could properly investigate this hole...stupid leash.

Emma, the huntress

When we added Emma to the family we didn't know we were taking in a keen hunting dog. This year alone she has killed two rabbits, a squirrel, numerous chipmunks, probably a mouse or two, and too many birds to count - all in our back yard. We're starting to prune our shrubs up from the ground so she doesn't have good hiding places any more. She's so sneaky and cunning. She'll go out in the yard and chase all the squirrels from under the bird feeders and then she'll hide in a bush until the squirrels and chipmunks forget about her. Then she pounces. Same thing with the birds - she hides and waits for them to become complacent and forgetful. Wham!

I found a dachshund website that warns about this trait in the breed. Here's an excerpt on some of the negative traits of dachshunds:

  • They are hunters and they may kill other animals in your yard, including birds, squirrels, raccoons, possums, chipmunks, and rabbits. If you're squeamish about real-life natural events, don't get a dachshund or be prepared to always walk your dog on a leash. My wife always rattles the back door before letting the dogs out to give the wild-life a fighting chance of escape. Never let your rabies vaccination lapse as these encounters could result in some severe consequences. Dachshunds are friendly to adults and children that have manners, other dachshunds, even a few other dogs and maybe the family cat, but everything else is prey.

  • Stubbornness almost to a fault

  • Clever definitely to a fault, lively and courageous.

So, we're trying to give the wildlife in our yard a bit of warning when we let Emma outside by making a lot of noise as we open the door. The squirrels are learning, but I don't know if the other animals are smart enough to take heed. Poor Emma, we're ruining her fun. . .

My long lost brother, Carl

Say hello to Carl Carlson, my long lost brother. Carl belongs to Jen Jansen, who found my blog. Isn't he cute?????

Carl has shorter hair than I do, but we won't hold that against him. The glasses and hat give him a lot of extra character, but they don't quite match the elegence of my pearls.

Hi Carl! Come visit me sometime!

Your sis,

Emma

Labor day fun

I started the holiday by helping Mom work in her chair. She wore a very comfy robe that was perfect for snuggling into.

How much longer, Mom? I need a good belly rub.

Are we there yet?

This is soooooo boring! How about that belly rub now?

Geez. Some people just don't get it. Guess I'll have to snooze some more while she finishes her work.

Maybe Dadderd's chair will be more interesting this morning.

More interesting? Maybe. I'm not sure I like the bunny ears, though. I'd rather be out chasing rabbits.

Ok, this is a little better. We walked a mile or so to a local park to see the Labor Day Arts Festival. I liked sniffing out popcorn and other goodies that people left around the booths and other places on the ground.

It was a nice, sunny day. The first one of the week. I had to take a long walk in the the rain and mud on Saturday. this was much, much nicer.

Here I am with some of my adoring fans. I don't know why, but everyone wants to pet me when I'm out on a walk like this.

That's ok, though. After all this hard work I was able to beg a bite of icecream. You can see those pictures in the previous post.

Yum! Ice Cream!

This is more like it. I guess I don't need the hot water or disinfectant. This will do.
